Seattle University's Theater Program tasked me to create the poster and web banner design of their first theater production/play for the 2023-24 school year. This was also my first design project for my design work scholarship via Seattle University. When starting my design process with this project, I met with my client to talk about what needs to be considered and any specifications of the designs. The director of the show let me know that the design needed to have red and black as the main colors and white as the secondary. Because I had never heard of this show before or its story/script, I relied heavily on what the producer of the show requested in terms of creative imagery for the focal image. What she had wanted was some kind of driving scene with a car and the antagonist, the Hookman, either seen in the rearview mirror behind the main protagonist or in front of the car in an intimidating fashion. So, I created a scene based on the second idea with the car's headlights panning to antagonist. Because the director of the show gave me exactly the scene of what she wanted for the cover of the poster design I did not create other potential drafts of the cover. I created the poster imagery in Photoshop and all text information and logos were added in Illustrator. The most challenging part of this design work was having the confidence in being a graphic designer and creating a design for someone else's event. In the end, however, the producer of the show told me that she and the cast of the show were very happy with the design and excited seeing the poster around campus.
