De-Stress with Dogs

De-stress with Dogs (2023—24)

24 x 36", 8.5 x 11", 1920 x 1080 px, 1080 x 1080 px

These designs were all made for De-Stress with Dogs events put on by the Wellness and Health Promotion office at Seattle University. My goal with this design was to create a different looking poster than previous designs made for the event. While starting the design process, my biggest concern was considering how effective past designs were for the event. One aspect that I thought could be changed from the previous years' designs was their flat vector shapes. So, using skills I've developed in ink drawing, I created the full imagery for the poster by hand first. I really wanted to make each and every scene fun, creative, and dynamic most of all. When looking at previous years' design, I thought the flat imagery wasn't engaging enough to capture an audience which is why I strived for a much more 3-dimensional appearance.

For the fall quarter 23' design I created a Thanksgiving scene with dogs of many shapes, sizes, and personalities all helping create pies together. I thought this scene was very fun and dynamic and could capture the attention of other students walking by.

As for the winter quarter 24' design, I thought it needed to be more unique and different than past winter quarter designs. Previous designs from that quarter I noticed had all been winter themed and had lots of ice and snow activities. Considering that the event would take place towards the end of the quarter in March, I didn't feel that that time of year fit the snowy activity imagery most past year designs had made. So, instead I went with a space theme that had not been done before. I thought a space theme may be an interesting departure from all past events because it had not been done before. Moreover, the slogan I had come up with served as a timeless wellness phrase that could be used in any wellness campaign at any time of year. The phrase "Don't forget to make space for yourself" was used on stickers that were handed out at the De-Stress with Dogs event.

The last De--Stress with Dogs event for the academic year 2023—24 in spring quarter 24' was my favorite of all 3 designs. For this design I wanted to recognize my fellow coworkers and their dogs. I chose to include my coworkers' dogs in the imagery because they had all contributed much to my learning about wellness and health education. Additionally, they all became dear friends which I miss working with. I also wanted to include staff dogs in the imagery as a way to get the staff holding the event more excited and engaged to host the event. The beach theme I thought was sacrosanct and would excite students for the upcoming summer quarter break. What could be better than dogs having fun together at the beach?!
