Glengarry Glen Ross

Glengarry Glen Ross (Seattle University Theater Program 2023-24)

Seattle University's Theater Program asked me to create a design for their play, Glengarry Glen Ross, which I was not familiar with. I discussed the whole concept of the play and requirements for the poster design with the director, Brennan Murphy. He was very helpful in this project, especially because he gave me the source imagery I needed to create the imagery of the businessman with a woman's seductive hands on the tie. Brennan asked me to create a poster that was visually striking and would stand out from all past year designs. He expressed how disappointed he was with past years' designers who he'd worked with and how he really didn't like their designs they'd created for him and the theater program. This gave me a lot of pressure to create something that was both very original and outstanding from past designs. The first designs were too Swiss style and boxy, looking too much like the Current 2023 Design Exhibition poster design. So, I redesigned my imagery to look much more dynamic and appealing. For essential information, I had moved them to the black rectangle running down the left side but made the play title jump out across the face. Moreover, I had the "written by" and "directed by" wording added to the right side to make the design more interesting.

The color choice of the poster was to contrast a sexy, bold, and striking red coloration that would go on the hands of the woman with the green of the man. Brennan emphasized that with the red nails, he wanted to make the imagery seem bold and have some sense of sexual tension with the male imagery. I chose to make the bright green one of the main colors of the design because I wanted to have some color representational of money, green, and a poisonous feeling.
